A relative milestone

I know some may disagree when I say that finishing a first draft counts as a milestone, but everything is relative. I had never counted myself among the writing community; Not until I typed the final stop in the first draft of my manuscript and sat back to think what my next step will be.

I had already promised my best friend, Justin, the opportunity to read the first draft and give me notes. He's a unique breed of human; in that he applies himself to something with focused passion and pride. I knew he would be the perfect person to this task.

The first copy was printed and he came to collect it the following day.

It's been almost a week since then and in that time I have created the cover illustration and titles. I also went into the document and adjusted the formatting. The second copy will be printed today and I have at least three other people - my wife, my mother, and my son - that wish to read it.

In the coming weeks, as I await their collective feedback, I will devote myself to commencing the chapter illustrations and additional conceptual designs necessary for the published book. I still don't know how I will go about publishing this. My hope is that I can somehow get an agent to land me a book deal with Scholastic Press, but only time will tell how things play out.

Thanks to everyone for all your support.
